There’s at least one would-be mugger in West Palm Beach, Florida, who will probably think twice before targeting a “defenseless” mom again — especially if her 9-year-old daughter is nearby.
Danielle Mobley had just finished grocery shopping at Sabor Tropical Supermarket with her daughter, Journee Nelson. As they walked back to their car, what should have been an ordinary afternoon suddenly turned terrifying. Security footage shows the moment Demetrius Jackson allegedly rushed Danielle, grabbed her purse, and shoved her to the ground.
Journee remembered noticing the man only briefly. “We walked out of the store, and I took a little glance at him,” she said. “Then I opened my car door — and the next thing I knew, he was running straight toward my mom.”
The child barely had a second to react. As the man threatened Danielle, he reached toward his waistband as if he had a gun. “You’re going to make me pop you,” he shouted — a moment that could have ended very differently.
But he never saw Journee coming.
Without hesitation, the brave little girl raced around the car and charged at the attacker. She punched and kicked him repeatedly, landing blows to his head and throwing him off balance. Startled and scrambling, the man tried to flee — and Journee actually chased him, following him several houses down the street before he finally got away. Police later tracked him down and arrested him two days later.
Although officers don’t recommend confronting a criminal, they couldn’t help but admire her courage.
“I wouldn’t recommend that you confront an individual like that, but in the heat of the moment things happen,” said Chief Frank Adderley. “He was definitely not expecting that kick to the face. The timing was perfect, and she hit him pretty hard.”
To honor her brave actions, the police department presented Journee with a special medal and token of appreciation — celebrating the determination she showed while protecting her mom and helping put a dangerous robber behind bars.
It’s almost unbelievable that a small child managed to stop a grown man in the middle of a crime — but Journee’s instinct to defend the person she loves most is nothing short of incredible. With courage like that, a future in crime-fighting may just be waiting for this fearless kid.
